The Verdict

These two are not really the same kind of product, and that is the finding. Nature Made Magnesium Glycinate is pure glycinate at 200mg elemental per serving, USP Verified, at about $0.19 a day. Life Extension Magnesium Caps is a blend of magnesium oxide, citrate, succinate, and TRAACS bisglycinate delivering 500mg elemental per serving at about $0.09 a day. Life Extension is the cheaper source of elemental magnesium by a wide margin, but its label does not disclose how much of that 500mg comes from the well-absorbed bisglycinate and how much from oxide, which is only around 4% absorbed.

So the two prices are not comparable dose for dose. In our view, if you chose glycinate specifically to avoid oxide, Nature Made is the product that actually delivers it and the USP seal is a rare independent check on that claim; if you want the most elemental magnesium per dollar and are not form-sensitive, Life Extension is the cheaper route.

Why This Comparison Matters

Nature Made and Life Extension represent two different philosophies in the supplement world. Nature Made is the mass-market leader - USP Verified, available everywhere, and priced for everyday shoppers. Life Extension positions itself as a science-forward brand targeting longevity-minded consumers who want cutting-edge formulations.

For magnesium specifically, the question is whether Life Extension's premium positioning translates into a meaningfully better product, or whether Nature Made's straightforward approach and USP verification make it the smarter buy.

We compared both on our standard four-factor scoring system to cut through the marketing.

How We Compared These Products

Every product in our database is scored on four equally-weighted pillars: dosing accuracy and form quality, purity verification (third-party testing), cost per clinically effective dose (not cost per pill), and label transparency. Each pillar is worth 25 points for a total of 100.

Cost per effective dose is calculated using the clinically studied dose from published research, not the manufacturer's suggested serving. If a product requires multiple servings to reach the dose used in clinical trials, that cost is reflected in the value score.
